In English, the "Fire Country", is one of the Five Great Shinobi nations. This country was the first to be conquered by the Akatsuki. The country is compromised of many forests and much undergrowth, thus its hidden village earning the name of "hidden in the leaves".

HOKAGE: UCHIHA ITACHI

In English, the "Wind Country", is the second of the Five Great Shinobi Nations that the Akatsuki conquered. The village is known as "hidden in the sand" due to the fact that much of the country is compromised of hostile, blazing hot temperatures and unforgiving sands.

KAZEKAGE: AKASUNA NO SASORI

In English, the "Lightning Country" is the third country that the Akatsuki conquered. Known for its massive mountains, thunderstorms are common in this country. The village "hidden in the clouds" is known as such because it is literally hidden in the clouds.

RAIKAGE: PEIN & KONAN

In English, the "Water Country" is the fourth of the Five Great Shinobi Nations, and the fourth that the Akatsuki conquered. It is a small country, but has a strong ninja force. Their village is known as "hidden in the mist" due to the fact that the village itself is usually covered by a foggy mist.

MIZUKAGE: HOSHIGAKI KISAME

In English, the "Earth Country" is the last of the Five Great Shinobi Nations, and thus the last country the Akatsuki conquered. The country itself is rocky and somewhat hostile, with its hidden village earning the name "hidden in the rocks".

TSUCHIKAGE: DEIDARA

In English, the "Grass Country" is one of the Lesser Shinobi Nations. As such, it does not have a kage. This country is one of the smaller countries, and lies between Hi no Kuni and Tsuchi no Kuni. The country is compromised of forests, grasslands, mountains, rivers, and bamboo thickets, and is therefore one of the more diverse countries. The hidden village, "hidden in the grass", earns its name due to the fact that it is situated in a grassland, compromised of extremely tall grasses.

In English, the "Bear Country" is in a generally unknown location; however, it is distinguished due to a crevice around its borders, from which poison fumes and gas flow. The country itself is compromised of many forests and mountains. The Lord / Lady of Kuma no Kuni refers to themself as "Hoshikage", even though this rank is not official. This is because of a meteor that hit the country approximately two hundred years ago. The village "hidden in the stars" is called as such because of the meteor.

In English, the "Sky Country" is a small country that was once nearly destroyed. However, it managed to continue growing. Its village, "hidden in the sky" gets its name because the village, and the country, is located in the sky. For a brief time, the Sora no Kuni plotted to attempt to challenge the Five Great Shinobi Nations, in order to regain the power that it lost. The country's base extends from a column that rises above the mountains, and from it are buildings and statues that make up the village and country.

In English, the "Waterfall Country" has many forests and cliffs. The middle of the country is composed of an enormous tree which settles over a large waterfall. At the base of the waterfall is the entrance to the village "hidden in the waterfall". The country contains plentiful rivers and waterfalls, and is in general very beautiful. Because of all the water, this country is rather humid, although it is not foggy.

In English, the "Snow Country" was once a country that constantly had the season of winter, until their weather control generator was activated. The country is small and relatively peaceful, with their village, "hidden in the snow" being situated on a small mountain. The country is surrounded by mountains, which constantly retain snow and colder temperatures. Even if the country itself is experiencing spring, the hidden village will still, inevitably, be in a slightly warmer, but winter-like, state.

In English, the "Rain Country" is mostly compromised of forests. Its hidden village, "hidden in the rain" gains its name from the fact that the country recieves more rainfall than the others. This country is situated mostly between the Five Great Shinobi Nations, and because of this has strict border control. Pein and Konan hold control over this country, and therefore it is the Akatsuki's base.

LORD / LADY: PEIN & KONAN

In English, the "Rice Field Country" is compromised mostly of forests and rice fields. The country was torn apart by strife and civil wars, and therefore welcome Orochimaru with open arms, hoping he would be able to help them. Orochimaru has called the hidden village "hidden in sound". Perhaps this is because of his many experiments. Citizens refer to the country as Ta no Kuni, while the ninjas and Orochimaru refer to it as Oto no Kuni; the true name of the country is under dispute.
